Following the Team Hales Honda magnificent 1st place by “Chris McGahan” at last years Junior Classic Manx, on the ultimate Drixton CB350 Hales Honda.

The teams new race policy is to produce a competitive, affordable road racer in the spirit of the original Honda factory kitted race bikes. This features the CB350 road frame. All parts or complete bikes of both models are available for sale.

The team has secured the services of another top rider “Alan Oversby” to race this podium potential racer.

At the recent sun blessed Billown road race at Castletown in the IOM. Both bikes went head to head. The highly experienced Chris McGahan on the developed seven speed Drixton, featuring magnesium copies of ex wks MV front, forks and drum brake . And rising road racing star Alan on the experiment CB350, featuring Honda front forks, disk brake.

Practice, threw up the usual teething problems, associated with a new M/C. The low revving Hi Torque experimental engine was changed for a Ken Garfields, Hi Revving, reliable race motor.

The Drixton was felt, somewhat flat, this was cured by strobing and changing the gearing.

Race day dawned clear and bright, with expectation of a record pace, considering the very strong rider field.

The Billown mass start of 25+ open mega race bikes, is a wonder of sight and sound. The decibels as they thunder past is bordering on the painful.

Chris flashed past totally tucked in his, trade mark style, in second, with Alan  fifth. Which they held until Chris missed some gears, which ultimately lead to his retirement.

Alan was having a ding dong battle with Derek Whally and Luke Notton from the fast disappearing Mike Hose . Until the clutch mechanism failed, so he settled for a safe sixth. A very good result considering the bike, had never turned a wheel in anger before this meeting.

Chris was obviously disappointed having to retire, as he had shown his pace from the first two laps against the eventual winner Mike Hose.

Alan and the Team are confident they will have a race winner with further development to the forks, disk brake and fitting of a new style of dyno developed exhaust system.

We await further reports of progress of what will be three Team Hales Honda’s. Now that ex team member Sean Leonard, will ride another experimental CB350 at Skerries and The Southern 100. Chris and Alan will contest the Southern and the Manx.

This is Old slippery taking the Chequered Flag until The Manx. Ferodo Vaselini ™
